US FOR BETTY GARRETT'S 90TH BIRTHDAY BASH!
The
event will celebrate the 90th birthday of esteemed founding
member Betty Garrett, who was honored in 2003
with a star on the Walk of Fame.
Best
known to television audiences as Irene Lorenzo, Edith Bunker’s
friend and Archie’s nemesis in All in the Family,
and Edna Babish De Fazio, the landlady who married Laverne’s
father in Laverne and Shirley,
Betty
was part of the Golden Era of MGM Musicals, appearing in On
the Town, Take Me Out to the Ballgame, Neptune’s Daughter
and Words and Music, as well as My
Sister Eileen at Columbia.
She
won a Donaldson Award (the forerunner of the Tony) for Call
Me Mister. She received Career and Life Achievement
Awards from Cine Con, The Professional Dancers Society, the
Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle, and The Ovation Awards.
Last
year Betty received the Kenny Award for her work raising money
for AIDS services through S.T.A.G.E, which she has Co-Chaired
for twenty years.
During
the evening, Theatre West will present a 1-hour variety show
to include performances by Beau Bridges, Gogi Grant,
The Phantom’s Leading Ladies and, of course,
Betty — tap dancing at 90!
