Curtain Up
"Under
the direction of Charlie Mount, the skilled actresses offer an
explosion of sassy attitude and female cheekiness. They are beautiful,
vibrant, and playful....
Betty Garrett (Sarita), whose comedic timing is like a fine wine
aged to perfection, plays her character as curious and gregarious
despite dementia. When admiring an age spot she quotes Shakespeare,
“Out damned spot!”
Katherine
Henryk (Lotta) is not only breathtakingly beautiful, she is at
complete ease with her character. And Layla Galloway (Cora) can
be relied upon to nail the moment-to-moment subtext humor.
This
talented cast mixes the humor of The Golden Girls with the sass
of Desperate Housewives.
The set is well crafted by Jeff G. Rack and fully captures a retirement
home ambiance with its lace curtains and fringe lamps. The fireplace
burns and the solarium shines. The costumes by Daniella Cartun
make me wish for a return of the stylish 50s hats. Carefully chosen
for the period, the women looked stunning in every scene. Yancey
Dunham’s lighting highlighted several important scenes with
strong theatrics and visual punctuation." SoCal.com
