Starting from scratch: Creating a future-proof foundation for a social startup
Founded in Stralsund, Germany, Café Hoch³ is a modern cafe that offers high-quality coffee, a great atmosphere and a co-working space with a reliable internet connection. But its modern approach isn’t limited to its sleek design… Indeed, the founders aimed to establish a digital infrastructure from the get-go, where all their business processes are fully adaptable to future challenges.
Even as a small company, Café Hoch³ still faces the same challenges as everyone in the food and beverage industry. One of them is having a lot of temporary workers that help out during busy times. This requires a PoS system that is easy to learn, intuitive, with no (or little) risk of making mistakes.
Considering the future, another important factor was the scalability of the entire system. As a freshly founded company the opportunities are plentiful and no one wants to outgrow their system after a year or two.
While looking for a solution that encompasses all these requirements, the founders of Cafe Hoch3 considered many options like SumUp and orderbird. But after careful evaluation they finally decided on Odoo as their software solution.

App by app: Implementing Odoo one step at a time to fit the business needs
As with many other small companies, the capacities of Café Hoch³ to implement new software are inherently limited. With the addition of their social mission, they naturally strive to limit any unnecessary overhead in order to donate the proceeds to charitable causes.
Odoo's intuitive design allowed co-founder David to set up much of the configuration himself. At the same time the modular approach of Odoo, which enables users to install and set up Apps one by one, made the implementation less overwhelming. This was particularly advantageous for Café Hoch³. When things became more technical or valuable advice was necessary, the Odoo Partner Intero Technologies was always there to provide the necessary support, for example when selecting suitable apps or advising on hardware and setup-related questions.
Starting with the PoS and the accounting system, the implementation was made easy by the fact that it could be installed and managed remotely from any device. Odoo’s entire approach is to minimize hurdles and maximize usability, always keeping in mind the people that have to work with the platform in their day-to-day tasks.
The same approach helped Café Hoch³ set up the website and the marketing apps. With Odoo’s Website Tool, everyone can create a professional-looking Website and the seamless integration of the WhatsApp account allows easy and precisely targeted marketing activities. By making use of the features and fully automating the marketing processes, there was more time for the actual operation of the Cafe, catering to the guests and creating the atmosphere that makes Café Hoch³ special.
David also loves to explore further Odoo features to optimize his workflows and reduce administrative work. His latest discovery is the expense card feature. “We are really excited about the possibility to give employees expense cards,” David says. “We issued cards to the whole team, which gave us an incredible advantage in our workflows”.
The expense card feature allows employees to make purchases for the company without going through the whole reimbursement process. The card is simply set up in Odoo and is fully integrated with the Accounting app. Right away a virtual card is issued and can be used. All payments are reconciled and employees only have to upload receipts.

David and Udo opened Café Hoch³ successfully in 2025 and were able to benefit from Odoo’s intuitive usability right away. The platform was easy to set up, even with limited time and experience. Once running, it took away tedious accounting tasks that usually require a lot of resources and, at the same time, reduced the chances for errors in these crucial financial operations.
In an industry where a lot of employees are either temporary or part-time, having a PoS system that doesn’t need a lot of explaining and minimizes user errors directly translates to reduced onboarding costs.
