Since 1965, VSC has been a trusted, family-owned leader in instrumentation sales, service, integration, and calibration. With nearly six decades of expertise, the company has grown from a regional provider to a nationwide partner serving industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, and oil and gas. Accurate measurement is essential for product quality, safety, and regulatory compliance, and VSC’s calibration play a vital role in supporting everything from manufacturing and data centers to infrastructure and legal trade regulations.
VSC was originally founded by a retiree who operated the business as a source of supplemental income. He sourced parts from a local company where the owner’s father worked, leading to a professional relationship that would shape the company’s future. When the original owner decided to fully retire, he offered the business to the Guffey family, who recognized its potential and took over. At the time, VSC had only three founding clients-two of whom remain with the company today. Over the years, VSC has expanded significantly, growing from those clients to serving over 1,100 customers across the United States, particularly in the medical and dental industries.
Matthew S. Guffey began working full-time at VSC during high school before pursuing a degree in measurement science engineering in California. After completing his studies, he returned to contribute to the family business, becoming a partner in 1999, and CEO in 2012.
The Challenge: Multiple Disconnected Software

Before implementing Odoo, VSC faced significant challenges in managing its operations due to inefficiencies in various enterprise software solutions.
"We went through multiple software solutions: QuickBooks, Great Plains, Rockton, and Gravity. Each has its own limitations. Some were too expensive, others didn’t work, and Microsoft’s cloud migration forced us to look elsewhere. We evaluated Acumatica, NetSuite, QuickBooks again, SAP, and Infor, but none of them met our needs. We needed a system that was flexible, cost-effective, and could support our growing business.
After years of struggling with ineffective and overpriced solutions, VSC needed a platform that was flexible, scalable, and capable of adapting to its evolving requirements. This search ultimately led to the decision to implement Odoo, marking a turning point in overcoming these operational challenges.

Discovering Odoo: The Right Fit for VSC

"I first heard about Odoo through a colleague at Toyota, one of our customers, who mentioned they were using it for inventory. That led me to do a quick web search, and after seeing a demo, I was convinced. Odoo's modular approach and functionality made it clear that this was the ideal solution for us."
One of the key factors that set Odoo apart was its flexibility. Many other ERP systems required a rigid organizational structure with separate roles for accounts payable processes-something that did not align with VSC’s operational model. Odoo’s data integration allowed VSC to enter information once and use it across multiple processes, from quotes to sales orders to invoicing.
The platform provided capabilities that competing solutions lacked. With Odoo, VSC could efficiently manage multiple corporate entities within a single instance without requiring separate logins or additional licenses, making it the ideal choice for the company’s evolving business needs.
By implementing Odoo, VSC achieved remarkable efficiency gains, fully transitioning to the platform in 2023. One of the improvements was the automation of sales order and purchase order transactions, eliminating the need for redundant data entry. Previously, each transaction required manual input at multiple stages, but with Odoo, data is now entered just once.
"Implementing Odoo saved us over 400 hours in labor within the first year by eliminating redundant data entry. That’s a game-changer for a company of our size."
The implementation also revolutionized VSC’s field service operations, reducing billing cycles from 14 days to same-day invoicing. Before Odoo, paper-based field service tickets could take up to two weeks to process, delaying revenue recognition. Now, as soon as a technician completes a service, the ticket is sent for approval and invoiced on the same day. This real-time processing has improved cash flow and customer satisfaction, ensuring a smoother and more transparent billing process.
Beyond efficiency, Odoo enhanced internal communication and record-keeping. The platform centralizes all customer and vendor interactions within the system, allowing seamless tracking of sales quotes, contract modifications, and approvals. This feature is beneficial for a small organization like VSC, where team members need instant access to records. If an employee is on PTO, another can easily retrieve the history of a transaction, keeping operations running without delays.
Coming up for VSC

VSC is gearing up for an exciting 2026 with the launch of its new e-commerce storefront powered by Odoo. The company is also optimizing its lab operations, utilizing Odoo’s repair module to streamline processes for equipment calibration, repair, and shipment.
Another major upcoming milestone is the integration of Modus-O, VSC’s calibration management software, into the Odoo ecosystem, consolidating all critical functions into a single platform. This integration will eliminate the need for external systems, further boosting efficiency and data consistency across operations.
Geographically, VSC is strengthening its presence in the Midwest and Great Lakes regions, reaching 31 states in the past year. While strategic expansions are being explored, the company remains committed to delivering solutions across the U.S.
For businesses seeking to optimize their operations, VSC’s success with Odoo serves as an example of how integrated solutions can drive efficiency and growth. Now is the time to explore how Odoo can transform your business.
